Fairfield / Jefferson County 1991 - 1998 Crime Statistics

"Golden Dome" at MUM Fairfield, Iowa
|
Fairfield,
Iowa is the home of Maharishi University
of Management (formerly Maharishi International University) since 1974.
"Golden Domes" were constructed on the campus, and completed in 1980/1981,
to accomodate
group practice of the TM-Sidhis program by students, staff, faculty and
residents of Fairfield.
Listed below are crime statistics for Fairfield/Jefferson County, Iowa, for
the years 1991-1998, showing an overall increase in crime.
According to
the TM Organization, however, "...research has confirmed
the existence
and the universality of the
Maharishi Effect.
It has become possible to lodge a prediction
in advance with the police and the Mayor of a city and then create the
effect."[1]
This is certainly not true for Fairfield, Iowa.
According to an August 25, 2000 news article, "On the other hand, in Fairfield -- where 20 percent of the population
meditates on a daily basis -- 'criminal arrests on drug charges, weapons
charges and for drunken driving increased dramatically in 1999,' according
to the Fairfield Ledger. The town's overcrowded jail was forced to send
prisoners to five other Iowa jails in late 1999."[2]
Fairfield (and Jefferson County) in Iowa have been the recipients of the
"Maharishi Effect" since about 1975, after the MIU campus was established
there in 1974. After 25+ years, and with the
largest
group of TM and TM-Sidhis practitioners in the United States, shouldn't
Fairfield be "an ideal society, free from crime and problems" as "predicted"
by the TM Organization? Shouldn't this have been accomplished, even at one
the lowest TMO-reported levels of crime reduction -- "an average 8.2%"
per year?
According to the ME formula, only 102 people practicing TM
(solely, 2x20 minutes, not including "sidhis"
practice) are required to cover the ME for the city of Fairfield
(10,163 x .01 = 102); and 171 people practicing TM are required to cover
the ME for Jefferson County (17,080 x .01 = 171).[3] There have been
at least 171 people in Fairfield practicing TM since
1975 (est. approx. 600 in 1975). In 1994, there were an
estimated
1600 TM practitioners.[4] Currently, there are an
estimated 2,000 TM practitioners living in Fairfield (20% of the local
population.)
CRIME STATISTICS for Fairfield / Jefferson County 1991 - 1998
There was an overall crime increase for the period -- as opposed to the
"predicted" continual crime decrease which "establishes a new formula
for the creation of an ideal society, free from crime and
problems".[5]
The 1991 Group "A" Crime Index was
6103.5. The average of the Group "A" Crime Indexes[6] for the
eight-year
(1991-1998) period was 6347.1.
Group "A" crimes include "violent crime"
such as murder, rape, robbery,
kidnapping, aggravated assault, etc.; "property crime" such as
burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, arson, etc.; and also crimes such
as narcotics and drug equipment violations.
This look at crime rates in Fairfield is for a
recent eight-year period; but by 1991, the "Maharishi Effect" had already
been "at work" in Fairfield for 16 years, and by 1998, the "Maharishi
Effect" had been in place for 24 years. Also, Fairfield has far exceeded
the 1% of the population practicing TM requirement for the ME, with the
largest
group of TM and TM-Sidhis practitioners in the United States, since 1979.
By 1994, Fairfield was reported to have approximately 16% of the population
practicing TM and TM-Sidhis[4]; and by 2000, Fairfield was reported
to have grown to approximately 20% of the population practicing TM and
TM-Sidhis.[2]
The crime indexes listed below are inclusive of
